an example: posts 1 pic, posts it to 7 groups I’m in, says PM for details and pics. No more pics. and THEN just argues himself out of $500 before I was even interested in talking money. Good times.
but at least he replied. My general complaint is the complete lack of detail in making an ad to sell a car. I feel like I go pretty deep in my own ads, but it’s not like they take a day to write, it’s an hour of effort. Worth it when you consider how many hours of meeting up with people it could potentailly say.
anyhoo, used car shopping, esspecially when you desire something from the early 90s, is really painfukl

Maybe this guy is why people start out with the question “what’s your lowest price”

right. I guess that stupid buyer question makes sense if some sellers are so willing to negotiate against themselves.

You have to remember its facebook where most people can barely read let alone write. Then letting them have access to a marketplace? Lets put this way, you’re not going to get Shakespeare.
At least with CL its easier to tell who you’re going to deal with. Though CL is dying a slow death as more and more I find what im looking for on FB.

I don’t get the whole “lowest I’ll go” bid technique, especially when it’s lower than the regular asking price. If it’s the same as the asking price, then just say $2200 FIRM. Otherwise, that “lowest” number is supposed to be kept to yourself until the end of the negotiation. Nobody’s going to offer 2500 if you’ve already said that you’ll accept 2200.

My experience with older hondas is that most owners are somewhat clueless when it comes to negotiation or pricing or modifications.

Says it’s stock but it’s clearly lowered.

Yes, tracking FB Marketplace and Craigslist, FB has been . . . challenging.

Wow. If 2200 was the lowest you’ll go than why not just put 2200 in the ad.

the search function is tricky too. hard to do a “what cars are new since I obsessively window shopped yesterday” type search on FB

100% !!!
I’m certainly not paying him over $2200 now. And to be honest, when he said that, without prompting, it mentally reset my start point for negotiations at $2200.

You can save searches and get alerts with the new listings marked. It works fairly well, but you only get one chance to look at it, and then the markers for new stuff disappear . . . and sometimes posts no longer show up for the exact same search.

thats the real issue. there was a crossover time where most of the FB ads were also on CL. but now I HAVE to cruise FB or I miss out on opportunities.

right, the disappearing is a real hassle. its still there if bookmark.
and I’ve setup a lot of alerts, but due to the general lack of detail in ads I get a lot of alerts for not what I want.
but such is life. I shall endure. and the end result I shall feel I got the best deal on the best avaialble civic.

One of my coworkers browses it constantly. She also messages people about things she has no intention of buying, which irritates me to no end. Who does that?!?!

the messaging is the ONE thing FB marketplace has over CL.
at least ease of replying to non-committed window shoppers is very low.
